So what happens when you open up the blog to an esteemed law professor? Apparently you get American Idol blog posts. Of course no one would mistake In re: for an academic proceeding so of course this isn’t a problem, I myself can’t say I’ve really seen much of American Idol, aside from tuning in a few seasons ago to see the Cleveland audition episode (I really will watch almost anything Cleveland related, although I admit I never really saw more then one or two Drew Carey shows).
Anyway, I personally think of shows like Idol as trash, but everyone has their own trash, and I definitely was into things that were likely far worse (the OC?). Recently you’ll remember I switched my viewership allegiances to what might be a bit higher quality with HBO’s ‘epic’ The Wire (I promised not to talk too much about it — but really how can you talk too much about The Wire?). Well signing up for one month of HBO in order to watch the whole season 4 of The Wire on demand proved to be money well spent, until it turned into a second month as I got hooked on Rome and I am now powering through Entourage season 3 on demand as well, which despite having season 3 be ripped by a few around me I’ve enjoyed. Unfortunately for me the timing of Entourage-fest couldn’t have been worse as I’ve been sneaking it in between studying sessions for the MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam) which I take Saturday morning.
I didn’t even notice it wasn’t you that had posted the blog entry. Here I was thinking, “this post seems pretty out of character for Ed.” This despite the fact you posted there would be a new guest poster on In Re… I suppose I ought to pay more attention. Oh Well.
Idol still stinks.
Reader Feedback: If I wanted Idol information I’d read Entertainment Weekly, or US Weekly, or I’d watch TV, etc.. I come to In Re: for the thought-provoking story increasingly NOT covered by mainstream media. Don’t drop you standards Ed. Keep up the good work.
Entourage 3 is terrible. The initial allure of the show was its novel but supposedly realistic spin on Hollywood life. In season 3, the smallest problems are still dealt with as if they are career-threatening when they aren’t, which just comes off as annoying. The lead character has become an established celebrity and no longer scorns the celebrity lifestyle in the way he did initially. To add insult to injury, there is barely any gratuitous nudity or even suggestive content anymore, and frankly the plot lines are as gimmicky as they come (a trip to vegas with a reckless gambling spree that ends up ok in the end? whoa this is revolutionary!). Sure, you are still allowed to enjoy it…I’d just rather hear about mediocre shows like Idol I guess.
The frailest egos. Deeper, classy porn and sat there, i felt it remains intact, enough, and i.
